<p>Maria Lima is our  intellectual property team’s paralegal handling all filings and communications  with the United States Patent &amp; Trademark Office (“USPTO”).   Maria,  through assistance of Miami Patent Attorneys Robert Thornburg and David Costa,  helps finalize and file complex domestic and international patent applications  in a variety of technologies including in the life sciences, biotechnology,  medical devices, consumer products, mechanical devices, pharmaceuticals and  green technologies.  In addition, she  helps prepare correspondence between our office and the USPTO, as well as  updates to our clients regarding the status of intellectual property filings.</p>
<p>Maria also helps  manage large and comprehensive trademark portfolios including domestic and  international trademark applications and registrations.  This includes filing both intent-to-use and  Section 1(A) trademark filings before the USPTO, as well as international  trademark filings under the Madrid Protocol.    Likewise, Maria assists in working with our vast assortment of foreign  trademark associates in Latin American countries to help secure non-Madrid  trademark rights for purposes of creating valuable international trademark  portfolios.</p>
<p>Apart  from her practice with trademark and patent portfolio management, Maria also  assist with domain name dispute arbitrations through the Uniform Domain Name  Resolution Policy (UDRP) offered by the World Intellectual </p>
<p>Property  Organization (WIPO) – including filings before the National Arbitration Forum.</p>
<p>Maria particularly enjoys  helping clients from Latin America and Europe who desire to help protect their  intellectual property in the United States. </p>
<p>Previously, Maria  served as the lead intellectual property paralegal for Greenberg Traurig’s  Miami Office.</p>

<p>Matthew Horowitz is a Registered Patent Agent specializing in the  preparation, filing and prosecution of complex international and domestic  mechanical systems, consumer products, medical devices, computer systems, business  methods, software, and &quot;green&quot; technologies. </p>
<p>Mr. Horowitz also serves as a law clerk to Miami patent attorney Robert  H. Thornburg in patent infringement and validity studies &#8211; as well as on legal  research in intellectual property enforcement proceedings. </p>
<p>Currently, Matthew is a third-year student at the University of Miami  School of Law, with a primary focus in intellectual property law. Ranked in the  Top 10% of his law school class, Matthew recently received the Dean&#8217;s  Certificate of Achievement (top two grades) in Intellectual Property Survey Law  and has previously received both the Dean&#8217;s Certificate of Achievement and the  CALI Excellence Award in Property. Matthew&#8217;s legal studies are primarily  focused in intellectual property. He is a member of the Miami Intellectual  Property Law Association, and serves on the Editorial Board of the  International &amp; Comparative Law Review. Matthew is also active in HYPE  Miami and the Technology Committee of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce. </p>
<p>Prior to attending law school, Matthew received his B.S. in Mechanical  Engineering, <em>cum laude</em>, from  Lafayette College. His technical experience includes employment at Florida  Power &amp; Light (FPL) as a materials failure analyst. He also served as a  research assistant at Florida Atlantic University.</p>
<p>Matthew is a wonderful addition to our intellectual property team.   He is a detailed legal researcher who brings a pragmatic yet academic view to complex intellectual property matters.   Matthew has a wonderful work ethic, a keen addition to detail, and an appetite to solving difficult intellectual property problems.   Matthew has tangible experience in preparing clients for deposition in intellectual property matters, organizing exhibits for depositions, and preparing witnesses for depositions.  He has also assisted attorneys in our firm with preparing Daubert motions to exclude technical experts in patent infringement matters, as well as motions to compel in trademark and trade dress cases.</p>
<p>As a Miami Registered Patent Agent, Matthew uses his prior research  experience at both Lafayette College and Florida Atlantic University to provide  a technical understanding when in drafting and preparing complex provisional  and non-provisional utility patent applications.</p>
